Subject: which breather?
Hi Rich

A co-worker (ichthyologist) of mine is interested in a rebreather so
he can go fish watching and counting without less bubbles. None of
this
work is deep (<20m) and he will be using air or EANx. He has a
 limited
budget.

Initially we had talked about a draeger semi-closed unit but after
some of the comments on the techdiver list I'm not so sure that this
is a good idea ... but then again it's a little hard to sort through
all the bullshit. So here's a few questions.

I've read that SC units emit more gas than closed units. Is there much
advantage in using a SC unit over open SCUBA in terms of bubbles ...
or do you really need to get into a closed circuit rebreather to reap
the benefits.

Do you think a semi-closed unit is safe for this sort of work? If so
what types should we look at?

Do you know of anyone working on fish behaviour etc that uses a sc
rebreather?

Thanks in advance..
