Like most days I spent a lot of time today working on project stuff, and am satisfied that everything is in good shape. As you know, we are now being supported by the CDS. While this is a welcome relief to me in the money area (any help is big help), it is far more important in that we pick up some strong allies in this organization who can influence many things in our favor, and help reduce any efforts currently not in our favor. I spent a lot of time talking to the State Government as well. They are firmly committed to the WKPP and our work, and are firmly comitted to our longevity, as in permits ranging out for years to come. This is in line with what we have already been assured by the U.S. Government for their properties. We have weathered the storm of criticism, email, phone calls, and other attempts to knock us out. We will be in these locations now, next year , and the years thereafter. They asked for a few things from me. I sent them a new list, but it is divided up into three categories. One is the gas setup and exp divers. The next is specialty personel, who can also be gas divers or just scientists who need to see something first hand, or guys I think I can teach to do it our way. Third is everyone else who is involved one way or another. I can add people, subtract people, and move people around. I merely need to do the paperwork when the time comes. They asked me to treat the community the same way the Governement treats me: I am in charge of diving in these locations, and anyone wanting to dive there or join or group, or move within our group must submit to me an "application" to do so, which is nothing more than what you can do for WKPP, just like I submit applications for permit based on what WKPP can do for its clients. Being a "good diver" means nothing to me - that I have covered. Being of some help or benefit is important. I have designated certain people as contact persons to work with the Park on certain issues. For example when I am in the water , they need somebody to deal with. Sallot and Mee will be Managers when they are topsides, Suderman , Wei and Watson are Support Managers. Sankey handles public relations and media, Wisenbaker is the "publicist". If they need local divers for something they have Irving, Rat, and Scarabin as contacts. If they need a meeting attended they have Sankey, Mckinlay and Jablonski as contacts, etc. This spreads it out and leaves the focus where it can be best absorbed. Gomez runs the science end, I run diving. I am extremely relieved to see that we have no threat to our long-term access to sites, despite the best efforts of certain elements, and that I can relax and concentrate on taking us to the next level. Starting in Septmeber our access is very much expanded, and we have some awesome dives to do - save you gas money, get your gear perfect, and lets do some serious exploration and get some hard data .
