Years ago, long before I started diving, I happened to be walking along the breakwater in Monterey, where I assisted a pair of divers getting a third diver out of the water. I am interested in hearing what the divers on the list think may have happened to the injured diver. First, the diver was completely incapacitated, although his eyes may have been open. His teeth were clenched tightly together, and saliva was being forced through them as he exhaled. He made a growling sound when exhaling. I don't know where he was when he first got into trouble, but the nearby water was probably 30-40 feet deep. I read in the paper later that he was successfully treated, but I can't recall whether the treatment included a chamber ride. Any guesses as to what may have been the problem? What would appropriate first aid have been? BTW, since this is my first posting to the list, let me introduce myself. I've been diving for about three years, and 100 dives or so. I'm nitrox-certified, but have done relatively little diving that I would call "technical". I would like to do more wreck diving, but unfortunately there seem to be few intact, divable wrecks (that people are willing to tell me about :-)) here on the west coast. Tim
