Subject: Cleaning Your Regulator
Cc: techdiver@terra.net
I find it hard sometimes to get fingerprints off the body of my first
stages. Can I use a detergent such as Simple Green to remove these or do I
need to throw the regulators away and get new ones. I'm concerned the oils
left from contact may spontaneously ignite and melt the hoses off, obviously
rendering the regulator useless, or at least suspect. Also how do I O2 clean
the inside of my high pressure gauge hose. Getting a brush through that tiny
hole in the one end is very difficult. Should I just flush some gasoline
through it which seems to work well for tough-to-get-out stains in
regulators. Boy do I have a headache! If I can't get it clean, should I
remove the pressure gauge and just rap the tank every now to check how full
it is? I talked with Billy BoBob, the portable welding guy, about this O2
cleaning thing. He said he follows the new government CFRs that require
dunking the whole welding apparatus, truck and all, in a trisodium phosphate
bath followed by a de-ionized water rinse at 105 degrees C. Now is he just
pulling my leg, or what?
