Tom, Thank you for taking the time to reply. This sounds like a good workout - for someone with good cv conditioning. You may be twice my age, but you're still in much better shape than I am. I think I'll use good ole interval training for a year or two, in order to get basic conditioning, and *then* I'll consider doing something as stressful as this.
