As Andy knows - we're in the same club and were out on the same rib when the IIa he mentioned and mine failed on the same dive - my nemesis worked fine for the first 6 or so months. It was returned to Cochran when it refused to switch on - and yes we had changed every battery in the unit. It was replaced with a 'new?' unit - I say 'new?' as it had a lower serial number than my first and so was possibly a refurbished one. I have not had a successful dive with the new unit - switched off in the middle of the first dive and now won't register pressure - so it is on its way back to Cochran. I still use my Aladdin (as well as tables) for backup - I'm not sure I'll ever dive with a Nemesis alone even as a timer. I like the dive profile that you can down load from it but it's an expensive profiler. As soon as someone else comes out with a unit that will detect and monitor gas switches I will be seriously considering changing. I thought that perhaps the problems with the Nemesis were teething problems and was willing to bide my time to get through it - but they haven't even got it right with the IIa. The idea of a backlight is good - but does it have to come on when tapped even when the wrist unit is switched off. I agree with Ray - for the cost of the unit we should not have to put up with such a high - ??100%?? fail rate of the unit. I have yet to hear from anyone who has dived with a nemesis for some time without a problem. As for the Aladdin - I only know of one fail and considering the difference in the number of users...... With the sale of goods act in the US how do we stand for getting our money back as I feel I have wasted the 800 UK pounds it cost. I have a theory that the cost of the unit is so high to cover the replacement/shipping costs of the replacement you need just about every other time you dive. My husband has one - and yes his has been replaced too - so that's 1600 pounds we have put in Cohrans direction for something we can't rely on. Yes I know you shouldn't rely on a computer totally without backup - but there is a limit. I feel I use the nemesis as the backup. If it's close to what I'm expecting then it's OK otherwise it's back to tables or the Aladdin and just sit out the extra deco time expected. In fact having said that I may consider switching to a Nitrox computer from a reliable company that doesn't take into account gas switches - at least I'll then get the benefit of some of the nitrox dive. For a while I used to recommend the Nemesis but warn of the high rate of fail - however I will no longer be recommending it to anyone unless I start hearing of a major improvement in realiability.
