Greetings: Just wanted to update you on the Rebreather Forum 2.0. Here's what's going on. 1) Mailings: Registration packages were mailed last Monday/Tuesday. If you want a package and for some reason haven't received it, please call +1-954-426-3669, f: 954-943-8989 and one will be sent. PADI/DSAT broadcast fax a flyer to all of their dive centers and resorts. Thank you! Their follow-up reg package has been mailed to same. Rebreather vendors should have received a vendor registration package and requirements sheet. PLEASE CONFIRM WITH US AS SOON AS YOU CAN. To register (and/or book your air & hotel) call PADI Travel Network at: 800.729-7234 ext. 2, p: 714.540.7234 x ext. 2, f: 714.540.2983, e: ptnfun@ao*.co*. 2) Attendence: There appears to be very strong interest in the Forum, particularly among dive store owners and instructors. We are now expecting between 125-150 attendees, including at least 10 rebreather vendors, almost all of the training agencies including BSAC (UK) and the VDST (Germany), and a lot of potential resellers. We will also have very good military turn-out. I believe their participation will be crucial to the success of the workshop. They are the only user group with significant experience with rebreathers, in both training and operations and they have important information to share (in addition to reviewing the next generation machines). To quote Billy Deans [re: rebreathers], "They're the only group that has their act together." Currently, we will have presentations from NEDU, DCIEM, and several Spec War groups, including a safety report on the Navy's rebreather incidents. NEDU will also be featuring semi-closed system simulation software that will allow you to simulate semi-closed breathing bag PO2s on your computer. How low can they go? 3) Program: We are in the process of fine-tuning and finalizing the program. Expect an update in mid-to-late August. 4) Diving We have secured Redondo Beach Saltwater Lagoon for diving all day Friday 26SEP supported by Dive'N'Surf. Please bring your mask & fins and if possible an exposure suit. The water is about 76-78 deg F. Orcatron Communications will be providing the burgers & dogs. Fin Doktor, Bob Evans, plans to channel several dozen pairs of the Force for your paddling pleasure. We will also be getting a sneak preview of some new gear that is likely to impact the whole array of user groups including rekkies, tekkies, professional and military divers. Hint: It's a matter of face. Watch this space. 5) Consumables: In addition to the Caustic Cocktail Mixer, Wednesday 25SEP evening, there will be a no-charge buffet dinner & entertainment (Bicarbonate Buffet) hosted by Hruska & Lesser on Friday, 26SEP. Let's see what the lawyers can come up with. 6) Contacts: I am going to be cave diving in the Yucatan 2AUG-10AUG. If you have any questions, need assistance, or need to get into the loop further call conference manager, Mike Innis p: +1-954-481-8268, e: scubahum@ic*.ne*. Go with the flow!
