Subject: IANTD manuals
I'm not entirely sure who the proper person is to direct this
suggestion to, so I hope addressing it to the president of IANTD is
appropriate.

I was certified by IANTD in Canada, and, being a true patriotic
Canadian took the time to familiarize myself with the metric system.
(I now use it exclusively, realizing its intuitive and simple nature).
When I took my Nitrox and Deep Air courses, I performed all of the
calculations for the unit quizzes and the test in metric, and several
times had to repeat these calculations using imperial measurements to
come up with answers that were on the answer key. It seems that the
deco tables included in the manuals list metric equivalents of the
imperial depths, etc., which are not exactly "on", and that all answers
on the answer keys are the result of performing the calculations using
imperial measurements and then including (approximate) metric
equivalents.

It seems to me that the INTERNATIONAL association of nitrox and
technical divers should be setting the highest standards and benchmarks
in the dive training industry for training AROUND THE WORLD, and in a
world in which only three countries have not made the transition to the
metric (read: international) system of measurement, IANTD does not
sufficiently fulfill their title
as the leader in international dive training. There is no excuse for
providing converted tables, etc., which fall anything short of the dead
accuracy noted with the imperial measurements and calculations in the
training manuals. Metric tables from scratch (or at the very least,
accurate conversions of the imperial answers in the quiz keys) would
facilitate a less confusing route through the training process by the
metrically inclined. Perhaps some of the funding for the manufacture
of IANTD bumper stickers should be diverted to a somewhat more pressing
matter?

I would appreciate any comments you have on the matter. Thank you for
your time.

-Sean
