Michael,

Annodizing is not particularly difficult, but the chemicals are a bit nasty.  
Basically, annodizing involves running an electric current through a solution
of 
 sulfuric, oxalic, or chromic acid.  If you're really interested though, you
can 
look the process up in any good text on electroplating.  Check your local 
library.

You'd probably be better off having it done commercially.  If you know someone 
who works in a machine shop you might want to find out if they'll send it out 
with the next large batch they have done.  That's what I do.  That way I only 
pay a few dollars, not the entire batch cost.
