Well, let's try one more time. This patent thing caused a little stir among my fellow employees here at the Patent Office, so we finally did the right thing and looked up the law. 35 United States Code 271(a) states: "...whoever without authority makes, uses, offers to sell, or sells any patented invention...infringes the patent...". So it is clear that whether the invention is made for personal use or not, is irrelevent when it comes to the law. Making a patented invention without permission, violates Federal Law. It is noted that if something is made for personal use, enforcement of the law therein would be rather difficult. I apologize for taking up too much bandwidth for a patent-related issue on a diving list, but as an employee of the Patent Office, felt a responsibility to set the record straight.
