Hi, here is the physicist giving a physics lesson again! What is "lifting the bag is the weight of the water that you are displacing. Remember this guy called Archimede????? The difference in weight of the inflating gas is insignificant compared to that of even just a few cc's of water. You will have to hold just as much since you'll be displacing the same amount of water and it will not get to the surface quicker. Using helium will not make the slightest difference in deployment time. I'm far from being a "pro" diver but, when I see something that is basic physics, that I thought was part of every basic scuba course, so badly understood, I can not but jump on it.
