It would simply swallow him, equipment and airtanks and weights and all, and eject the equipment later, same as an owl ejects a mouse's fur and bones afterwards. Groupers have been reported big enough to do that. I can imagine the monster's lair in the reef, with a "dragon's treasure hoard" of undigested diving gear accumulated in and around it.
