I can tell you that in Scubapro like valves there is no
reason to back off 1/4 turn. Orings do all the work 
when the seat is backed off of the orrifice.

I like to have my valves all the way open against
the stop. If shit hits the fan and I need to shut
a valve down I only want it to turn one way and 
that is off! I guess that is why we do the valve 
drill before each cave dive...
