I just got off the phone with Lamar Hires regarding the upcoming sidemount course. He has no problems with me posting the "adventure". However, it will probably be done in installments since the dates have now changed. It seems Lamar needs to go to Key West the weekend of July 20th to secure a good deal on a house for Lobster season. Plus he has a new boat he is anxious to try out. So, he has screwed up our schedule and we weren't even invited down for Lobster season. :) (Keith, if WKPP is diving that weekend I'll be there.) The "introduction" to sidemount diving will begin this Tuesday evening at Ginnie Springs. Obviously, there is more than one way to get to certain areas in Ginnie than the true and travelled paths. Lamar tells me this while laughing (if any of you know Lamar, you know the laugh I'm talking about. It always gives me the creeps. Having gone through full cave with Lamar several years ago, I came to dread that laugh!). Basically, the introduction will consist of the myriad ways that you can get stuck and, hopefully, how to extricate yourself. That sounds fun doesn't it? At this point, if we have no problem with becoming "one with the cave" then we move onto "real" sidemount dives at other sites (to be announced). Jesus! We're having fun now. (George, were you serious about Big Dismal and Little Dismal? Lamar seemed interested.) I have made several posts regarding the BC's and tanks used in sidemount diving. The general consensus seems to be that most BC's used are your older types that have been chopped up and modified. Tank preference seems to be steel 95's. I'll be using the only spare tanks I have, Genesis 100's. Lamar says these will work fine for training. Of the few replies I have received, the DiveRite Transpac has gotten good reviews (FOR SIDEMOUNT APPLICATIONS). This is the BC we'll be using. I will give a detailed description of how Lamar rigs everything after Tuesday. I'm trying to gather more information regarding sidemount configurations. Please email me with your setup if you are an "experienced" sidemount diver. Thanks
