This is a very interesting question. I can see where I have sort of thought of using the gear as a crutch. The advances in gear over the last decade have been dramatic. I am going to have to be very careful not to get sucked into gear weenie-ism and work on the gear between my ears. I already rely too heavily on my computer to keep track of everything for me. Although, on a recent dive trip we did 13 dives in 2.5 days and I mirrored my air computer with my Nitrox tables for the whole trip. It was good to know that I was still able to read my tables and figure deco times. Anyway, I have to start learning more about diving and less about gear.
