Things that make you go ummm!!! First of all let me start of by saying that George is correct and us weenie Tech divers are also correct. Before all of you start jumping on me for agreeing with George please listen. Dive Plan #1: (SAC = .5) SACxTimexATA 174' Dive for 12 minutes on air. No penetration nice relaxing dive. Deco stops were done using ProPlan Software. 174' dive to last for 12 minutes with a 5 minute travel time to the 30' stop. Deco Stops 30' stop =1min 20' stop = 4 10' stop = 8 If you calculate worst case you will see that at 174' the diver will use 38ft(3) of air. The travel to the 30'stop calculated at worst case (174') the diver will use 15ft(3) of air. 30' stop for 1 minute the diver will use 1ft(3) 20' stop for 4 minutes the diver will use 4ft(3) 10' stop for 8 minutes the diver will use 6ft(3) This will give a total of 64ft(3) needed to do this dive. Now this is worst case as the bottom is at 174' and this is not representing average depth of diver, he can get away with a slow ascent to the surface no stops. Now for the Techno weenie dive. Dive Plan# 2: (SAC = .5) 174' multilevel dive to last 35 minutes using EAN 80% for deco at 30' and above. Lots of wreck penetration (out of light zone). 174' for 5 minutes 160' for 15 minutes 150' for 10 minutes 130' for 5 minutes with an additional 5 for travel to first stop calculated at its worst case (I used 130', the last depth I hung around at). Deco Stops 50' 1 minute 40' 6 minutes 30' 6 minutes 20' 9 minutes 10' 16 minutes If you calculate worst case you will see that at 174' the diver will use 15ft(3) of air. 160' the diver will use 44ft(3) 150' the diver will use 28ft(3) 130' the diver will use 12.5ft(3) The travel to the 50'stop calculated at worst case (130') the diver will use 12.5ft(3) of air. 50' stop for 1 minute the diver will use 1ft(3) 40' stop for 6 minutes the diver will use 7ft(3) Make switch to EAN80% 30' stop for 6 minute the diver will use 6ft(3) 20' stop for 9 minutes the diver will use 7ft(3) 10' stop for 16 minutes the diver will use 10ft(3) The total air used will be 120 but the reserve in the doubles is needed incase of loss of DECO gas. Its the plan. that is costing us in time and gear but hey thats the plan I want to use. So for his plan George is right and for the Techno weenie plan (me) we are right. Do the math.
