Subject: trimix death
While up at Gilboa Quarry in Ohio last july 4th, Art ? who run the dive
shop there told me of a death that occurred on June 30. The facts as
related were that this person (I don't know who) was carrying trimix 17/50,
nitrox 56 (i think), and O2 on what seems a trimix practice dive. To
dive in the deep area of the quarry (which is 130+ ft.) a dive plan is
required but according to Art this person told the quarry office he filed
a plan with the dive shop and then told the dive shop he filed a plan
with the office. According to the person's buddy this person was to
spend two hours in the water. The buddy was on air and left the victum
some time into the dive and notified the quarry operators of his missing
friend about 3 1/2 hours after the dive began. The lost diver was found
with about 800 psi of trimix in his doubles, about 100 psi in his O2 tank
and about 1600 psi in his nitrox bottle. The nitrox reg was shut off and
free flowed when turned on. No other details at this time.
