I only was planning an open water dive with open water gear, otherwise I would have my normal setup. You are right, the normal rig is always better, but with rough seas and a weenie dive, I go to the minimum gear. Also, with these drift dives, be prepared to swim to the beach, easier done with less gear. Mims has never lost me, but his boat did die one time, and the other boats have all lost me and others. Rough water, go with minimum gear and forgo the penetration and the long deco. Flat water, ideal conditions, go for the full tilt dive. -G
