The soft double bands which you are thinking of may be the ones made by Aqua Explorer, Dan Berg's company. These bands hold each tank by two independant cam straps and are bolted onto a backplate. This allows each tank to be carried seperately and allows for the pairing of disimilar tanks. Useing these bands witha manifold is illadvised. These bands were designed to be attached to a backpack (or some BCs) designed to hold a single tank. As such, there is a convex section that fits into the concave section of the backpack were the single tank would sit. This makes these bands particularly bad to use with the Dive-Rite backplate as the center of the Dive-Rite backplate itself, comes out at least an inch. This space added to the space caused by the convex section of the bands causes the tanks to sit several inches away from the divers back, an unstable condition. Philip Weissman
