Hi There, As it was suggested by the first response I got back from the server upon my subscription to the TechDiver list, I'd like you to know another soul is gonna watch what you people say/discuss in here. I'm quite new in diving (two years and NAUI Divemaster as of Dec. '93). It didn't take me too long to proceed and get the card even though I'm aware of the fact that being certified does NOT necessarily mean that I'm qualified. I should mention though, I've been certified through University of Texas at Austin. I, myself, am an Aerospace Engineer-Enginnering Mechanics M.S. and currently working on my Biomedical Engineering PhD at The University of Texas at Austin while conducting my research at the Orthopaedic Research Division of The Health Science Center at San Antonio. My primary research is in Biomechanics of human tissue (bone/cartilage/muscle/etc) under pressure conditions. My research is not directly dealing with diving but the experiments being run in our lab is based on hydrostatic pressure which happens at depths exactly in the similar manner. The cells making up and maintaining the integrity of the tissues act differently under varying loading conditions. Therefore, I believe that some of the unexplained behaviour of tissues could be elaborated by their biochemical activity changes during dving at various depths for extended periods of time. To make to long story short, I'd like to gain as much as info to become qualified to be "safe" diver to maybe conduct in the area mentioned above. I'd be glad to share my knowledge in the matter with anyone who has any interest on it. Greetings... Ruhi Arslanoglu Orthopaedic Research The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio
