That's interesting.

I've been told to carry cylinders so that the axis of the cylinder is
parallel to the axles (ie at 90 degrees to the way Eric carries them).

The reasoning being that if one goes off bang, the valve goes out of one
side and the cylinder the other side, theoretically not endagering the
driver (but very unsportingly putting any passers-by at greater risk).

Presumably one should also have some kind of warning sticker if flares are
being carried?
