During the course of events leading up to the U/W Marathon, I've become aware of a diving publication that I've not seen mentioned here in the past. The publication is _The Universal Diver_, it is published 4 times a year, and it runs $20, $30, or $40 per year for domestic 3rd class, domestic 1st class, and foreign 1st class postage, respectively. It is newspaper formatted and is not the most polished publication I've seen but content makes up for that. It was started as _The Working Diver_ with a focus on commercial diving. In the past year, it has expanded its coverage to include topics with a much wider appeal. The latest issue I have in hand includes the following articles: "What's Diving Like?" for those considering diving as a possible activity. It emphasizes the need to stay within your physical abilities and to use the best equipment you can. "Simple-Minded Suggetions For Underwater Video" offers advice for the new videographer. "Field Use of O2 In Diving Related Injuries" "What to Expect If You Choose a Commercial Diving Career" "Psuedo-Science and the Diver" is a not very flattering analysis of certain computer models attempting to adapt environmental factors to decompression models. Earlier issues included indepth articles on in-water recompression with case histories, the plight of the Miskito Coast Indian divers, and underwater salvage law. The captivating thing about this magazine is it's no holds barred coverage of diving. A refreshing contrast to the likes of Scuba Diving and Skin Diver.
