>SOUTH AUSTRALIA not S.Africa although there are a lot of C. carcharias >attacks off the coast of S.Africa. Someone else might like to comment on >S.Africa. There has only been one (recorded) shark attack on a scuba diver in South Africa. This occurred in Mossel Bay, on the Cape south coast in 1990. The diver was on the surface about to descend for her dive, so it probably doesn't strictly count as a scuba diver attack. I don't know the number of attacks on spearfishermen or surfers offhand. There are supposed to be quite a few great whites in False Bay (Cape Town), but although I've done most of my diving there, I've never seen one. I have seen things like bronze whalers, gully sharks and nurse sharks, and plenty of smaller sharks. There are also fewer scuba divers here than in Australia - less people in the water probably means less chance of someone being attacked.
