Jenolan Caves is situated about 110km's west of Sydney in New South Wales Australia where a number of divers have been working for some years on exploring and mapping a number of underground streams in an area of limestone about 10km's long and about 1.2km's wide. Currently diving is taking place in whats called the river Lethe and the Imperial streamway and these dives are accessed throught an extensive tourist cave system which through puts upto 250 thousand tourists a year. Further diving is underway a few kilometers to the north in Spider cave and Mamoth cave which is waiting to be connected and the Spider, Imperial connection was made in the late eighties so when Spider and Mammoth connection is made the total lenght of the cave system would be in the order of 30 km's + - a bit. The dives are accessed often through some hard tight caving for some hours lugging gear and the water temp is in the order of 13 to 15 degC, I think the altitude is about 900m above sea level. The divers taking part come from a number of certification bodies i.e I.A.N.T.D, C.D.A.A (Caves Divers Assoc of Australia) and T.D.I and the cave area is administered by the Jenolan Caves Reserve Trust. Does anyone want to hear more details about this interesting area? Bruce Stewart
