Subject: ppO2 and gas switching

Does anyone know of any research being done (or has been done)
regarding the physiological affects on gas switching during
ascents and decents. I'm specifically interested on work that
has been done on switching from one ppO2 to another (low to
high, and high to low), and transitional mixes (if needed for
large changes in ppO2).

Information on this subject is few and far between (at least
that I've seen).
