The 0.8lpm figure was quoted by Peter during the 1/2 day introductory talk. It was given as a ballpark figure to a group of divers hearing about practical rebreathers (for most of us) for the first time. We then used the rebreathers in a pool only. "Diving and Subaquatic Medicine", quotes O2 metabolisation rates as ranging from between 0.8lpm and over 3lpm, with rates of over 2lpm "quite common" (these are based on swimming tests, breathing O/C air). The book goes on to say that: Typical gas consumption rates for a "slow swim" 0.5kt, a diver would be breathing about 20lpm of air, with an O2 consumption of about 0.8lpm (this magic number again), and 0.8 Knots = 30 lpm air breathed = 1.4 lpm O2 consumed 1.2 Knots = 50 lpm air breathed = 3 lpm O2 consumed.
