It seems to me that the WKPP is going to an extreme by unsubscribing.
They can take the lurker strategy and simply be subscribed. Further,
the posts put out that are allegedly being used against them are a
reflection of their lack of restraint when it comes to the public
forum. Simply restrain from objectionable language and statements
that are clearly dangerous i.e. conflict with industry safety
guidelines (O2 mixing). The rest, like which tanks and manifolds to
use will bore even a politician to death. The progress reports will
make a politician take note of accomplishments.
So if you leave out the SMDs and other locker room language along with
the "we blow off the @$#@(*$*&@^& safety guidelines as we have
superior knowledge" lines, then you have a bunch of uncontroversial
posts you can be proud of and are useless to competitors, especially
those that warn about safety defects in lights, reels, scooters and
so-on.
IOW, the knee jerk pull back is just that. Censor yourself in public
like your momma taught you to! Folks around the world need a forum
like these to dive more in a more knowledgeable and safe manner which
the WKPP contributes to immensely. Most of use appreciate the info (so
much so that we'd an elephant thru a straw to get it) and would rather
have the garbage filtered if you don't mind.
Get back on the lists (we know G-man loves to mess in this sandbox),
play hardball with competitors and enjoy beating them--DD
P.S. Everybody note what Ken says impressed him about Lamar Hires, I'd
like to be like that myself. How 'bout all of us?

I had an interesting afternoon. When I first got back to my office
from lunch I had a message on my answering machine from Pete Butt.
While talking to Pete, I got a call on my machine from George Irvine.

I know nothing about this. However, like other WKPP members, I
have unsubscribed from these lists (I still read rec.scuba because
it's not really technical in nature), so I missed this message.

There have been serious allegations made on these public forums
before. I myself have been guilty of some, however my biggest
bitches about products I wound up getting the opportunity to bring
up with Lamar Hires a few weeks ago at Devil's Ear. My biggest
complaint had been gap reels, I felt there wasn't a decent one
on the market. I had the opportunity to talk with Lamar about
my gripes, and he informed me of the changes that Dive Rite is
putting in place in regards to the reels, and other new developments
that will help improve the quality of their products. His attitude
impressed me because he didn't blow me off, but rather he spent the
time to talk with me and tell me what they are fixing and what went
wrong.
Well, that's about all I wanted to say. I hope to avoid wasting
anymore bandwidth because I realize probably more then needed has
already been wasted.
