Semi-closed and Fully-Closed Rebreathers are not the same. I thing it
would be beneficial for discussion purposes and design requirements if
they were looked at seperately. Semi-Closed Nitox Rebreathers, and any
time you discuss semi-closed, you are talking enriched air, are a small
step up from open circuit compared to fully closed. A correctly designed
semi-closed system, so far not available yet, can be as safe as open
circuit and would not require electronics or an O2 sensor. However, the
design requirements for fully closed are complex, require a lot of
redundancy and of course electronics and O2 sensors. And they greatly
increase the risk of death.
