It uses some combination of lasers and CO2 gas. So maybe you could use some combination of lasers to break down the CO2 into C and O2 and plate the C out onto a disposable receptacle. Then every few years, you replace the receptacle and throw away the diamond... (BTW, that process is allegedly real. The experimenters made a mistake and loaded their test chamber with CO2 instead of N2, and got perfect diamond film.)
