I have no trouble believeing that bubbles cause problems because of
their interaction with platelets, complement, clotting factors or the
like.  I agree with David that the order should be bubbles then
complement activation rather than the other way around.  It seems
plausible that something may happen following complement activation that
causes growth but you still need bubbles first!
