John, read Eric Maiken and Bob Wolov on the nitrogen issue. On the fitness issue, let me tell you this: if what we are saying about vascualrization and transfer were not true about the fit diver, then I will be swimmming in the Olypics this summer, since I can swim their speed for a short distance, and obviously would require absolutely no training for the longer distances. What do you guys think the definition of fit is? The way you can perform athleticly is the increased ability to off and on gas and to transport away lactic acid and co2, as well as metabolize glucose efficiently, which implies the other things I just said. I realize that this is not what any of you want to hear, but there are no shortcuts. Why do you think we are able to do what we do - magic? No, hard work. This is what the rebreather crowd is hoping for - something for nothing. Guess what, there is more to it than that. First, they need to take a physics class. Then they need to go diving. Then they need to go to "Running Wild" and get a pair of Asics Light Trainers, and meet me at 6:00 am at Yankee Stadium so I can show them what it really takes to do this without getting killed, cold, bent, tired, or worse, embarrassed.. -G
