Hello,

Thanks to all who responded with information about my European tanks.
It's nice to have an international forum like this where information can
be shared quickly.  I appreciate your time.

For those of you worried about me cramming a 3/4 inch valve into the metric
tanks -- fear not.  I'm not that stupid.  I'll use the manifold that came with
the tanks, which has matching metric threads.  Of course I'll first have the 
tanks hydrostatically tested, and the manifold rebuilt.

Here in the US, dive shops will not fill a scuba tank if the valve has no burst
disk.  I have access to compressors on my own so that will not be a limitation.
