Michael Kravit writes that he can't get JJ for a cavern course -- and needs
advice on finding another instructor so as to avoid the "red-necked
strokes."

Michael -- You would do yourself, and the rest of the cave diving
instructors out there, a serious injustice if you consider everyone, except
George's friends, to be red-necked strokes just because that's what George
considers them.

Perhaps it would be wise to, at this point in your diving career, begin
the process towards maturity, competence, *self-reliance* and
*self-responsibility* -- which are the real bottom lines - by doing your
own research, and speak on your own with a few of the high quality
individuals who teach cave diving -- and make your own decision, rather
than simply blindly following behind one person's viewpoint. Such
independent thinking would not be at odds with George's over-all
philosophy, so you'd stlil be OK with him.

We would all like to learn how to fly from a space shuttle pilot -- and JJ,
besides being a gentleman, is certainly one of the best divers around --
but it isn't absolutely necessary -- or the only way to learn.

You can get a complete list of qualified and tested NACD and NSS-CDS
instructors from a wide variety of sources. By doing this, you might meet
people who have a great deal more character, standards, helpfulness,
generosity of spirit, patience, understanding, and talent than you would
ever expect or assume by just listening to one extremely biased and
opinionated diver with a separate agenda that doesn't have anything to do
with your instruction.

Best regards,
