who out there does the sort of testing you describe?
*. what does this testing involve?
*. how much of a fee is typical?

I had it done by Zach Zachariah in Ft Lauderdale at Holy Cross Hospital.
Insurance paid will pay for it, if you do not want to. Cost is $450 - less than
a computer which assumes you have a gaping ASD. Good deco software ? $69 for
DECOM, about $300 for Abyss.

Remember when the PADI instructors told you that NAVY tables were for
young, very fit divers? They left out "with some having PFO's". There may be
other differences in individuals that we are not aware of that cause a
difference in suscepability, but I would assume that good cardiovascular
effieciency is one way to reduce the risk. At least it works for me, but see
what works for you, and make your own tables from your dive log and your
software.

The article about the caisson workers is amazing. Some of these guys did
the equivalent of Ginnie for two hours on air and surfaced with about 12
minutes
of deco (the time it took to get the air lock back down), and had no symptoms,
and that they repeated again that day. Others died on the spot.

Now it looks like these guys got all of the bone necrosis, but then it
appears that this may have been from the elevated PPN2, not the deco! So it
looks like deco weenies who dive air are not getting off the hook, they are
just getting hooked by the computer makers, and will still get the necrosis,
and
will still die if they have an ASD or a PFO, and have a bad day. Good luck! -G
