-- [ From: Terrence Justice * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- I have come into possession of two Tekna DPV's that just needed some routine maintenance and new batteries. I have heard that the reason Tekna went out of business is due to a faulty design which may cause these things to explode during charging. I am aware that Oceanic is now marketing a next- generation version of the design which utilizes a removable cowling to provide proper ventilation during charging. I have a few questions regarding this equipment and I invite anyone with related experience to offer whatever insight they may have: 1. Is there enough similarity between the old Tekna and the new Oceanic DPV to allow for a retrofit of the Tekna? In other words, could the Oceanic removable cowling be SAFELY installed on the Tekna somehow? (It appears that the mold and the attachment screw form factors are the same.) Has anyone tried to do this or contacted Oceanic about it? 2. Is it practical to simply remove the cowling on the Tekna each time you want to charge it? (Doesn't seem like it, but I thought I'd ask.) 3. Are there certain conditions or procedures that lead to the possible explosion that can be avoided? Are these things safe to use and charge as originally designed? (IOW, is it BS that they blow up?!) 4. Are there retrofits or third-party vendors that will upgrade, update, or sell the required parts to do so? Thanks in advance, tj P.S. I cower in the fear that some flamer may read this post and conclude that I butt-mount my light. ;^)
