George,  I have been following this thread with interest for some
time.  I have been using butt mounts and have not experienced any of
the problems you discussed, however there is always a first (and
potentially last) time for everything.  You seem to firmly believe
that your config is best for reasons of safety and simplicity, and as
this is the case I ask if you would please post a summary of your
entire gear config, along with the rationale behind each method.
