Today, in a moment of isanity, Tom said:

pressure gauge at a differnt point, wear a safety light at a different
place and even if they butt mount a light provided the light is

Thomas, you are digressing. The reason everything has a place in
our system is to accomodate all of our procedures. We can not tow
sombody who is wearing a buttlight. We have the best towing system.
We can not ride our scooters right handed with the light on the left or
the stages on the right. We can not have hoses stuffed anywhere, that
is too ridiculous to contemplate. Somebody else can argue that. The pressure
guage is on the left because of where the regs feed. Change one thing, and you
must change everything, leaving you with nothing.

The reason you guys keep saying that these things are ok, like the old
dive rite lights, is that your friends do them/make them. Too bad. I have
no such confinements. If Gavin made a shitty square light, or some other
piece of goofery, I would not use it no matter how good of a friend he is.

Tom, I used to do things the wrong way, too. I had genesis 102's, the most
useless tank ever manufactured , bolted to a homemade "technical" bc. I stuffed
my hose, because I saw Peter Schultz do it, and he was kind enough to sell me a
manifold so that I no longer had to use a cheater bar. Etc. For some reason I
libed through that phase of my diving, which included deep air, and am just
lucky.

MORE LUCKILY, I ran into Parker Turner, who made me let the air out of my
tanks, take them apart, drive me to the dive store, and redo my entire rig
before he would teach me cave diving. Parker told me to take the cotton out of
my ears and put it in my mouth.

I think his point is more than proven by me, and the rest of the guys I
dive with, don't you? - G
