You Stated: " Finding the anchorline was not tantamount to survival. So, if on occassion you don't find it, just deploy the line & ascend. If plan involves going that far from anchor line that you will get lost due to inability to navigate by brail, then instead of spending time on laying & retrieving a 'way back line', ascend on upline from where you are. Why spend the time to return." I agree. But I think the concern here was why carry two reels??? If you plan on a penetration, or a way back line, carry two reels. And ascending in the open ocean up in the NA without an upline attached to the wreck is just plain stupid. Of course it is done, but that does not mean it should be reccomended as a safe way of diving. I don't know of any boat up here that is going to come and get you (unless you were the only diver in the water at the time) if you are floating free in the water. Any boat the is going to cut its anchor line, abandone the remaining divers in the water to retrieve the idiot floating free because he chose to not use an upline, is a boat that I would only dive on if it was a wreck!! Safe Diving, Raimo.
