Hi all! Recently I've read a lot about fake posts. Is this a big problem? It sure looks like it... Although it would make life harder maybe it's time for PGP authentication. I don't know how much you guys know about it. It makes it possible to 1) encrypt/decrypt stuff 2) authenticate messages sent. Number 2 is the useful thing for both cavers and tech diver lists. It does mean a lot of overhead though... It works by each one of you installing PGP on your computers, then make a Public key. This key is sent along with all email to everyone who needs it. The receiver then uses it to verify the sender is the one expected. One person should be responsible for collecting keys and certify them, i.e. check that it's really the person it should be sending the public key... I suggest: let one person take care of the public key certification. This person will collect and verify the keys received and send them out when done. To his help there should be certain reliable persons in each part of the world helping him with the verification else it would be hard to know if Mr. Umbopu from Kenya really is Mr Umbopu or maybe someone else... All this means a lot of work and headache - but if the problem with fake posts renders these list unusable maybe the time is here... Then there's the problem of setting up and installing PGP, I could easily set up a web page with all of the instructions and the needed software... Take care!
