As any of you who are on cavers know, the cave diving mailing list
being run by Ken Sallot has been shut down permanently due to pressure
by Bill Dooley.

I sent out a message to all the people on the list, but I received
MANY MANY bounces/errors/etc. from the email so I wanted to echo the
content of the posting here.  I've also already received MANY messages
in support of the resurrected list so I know it got out to some
people.

The list will be reborn within 48 hours...  I'm not going to give out
the address yet so no messages are sent prior to it being open (I
don't want to sift through tons of error messages).  Subscriptions and
unsubscriptions will (temporarily) have to be sent to me.  I am the
sole owner of the list.  I hope to have the automated
subscribe/unsubscribe feature up and running soon.

A test message will be posted to the list, then I will post a "go
get'em" message and we'll be off and running.  This outage will in no
way affect the archive that is www accessible at terra.net that has
been in place for some time now.

Ken Sallot will have *nothing* to do with the new list because running
the old one caused him nothing but time, grief, and aggravation.
Hopefully, he'll be a contributing member of the new list.  Any
complaints - bring'em to ME.  I do not ever intend to moderate or in
any other way control what is said, although I request that some
amount of decorum be observed and I reserve to right to remove people
from the list who are, IMSNSHO (in my sole not so humble opinion)
misbehaving.

I spoke with Bill Dooley about this issue and let him know my feelings
on the matter.  I also said that I would have the list back up and
that neither he nor anyone else will cause me to shut down my list.  I
suggested that he obtain his own email account and present his own
point of view.  Tom Mount and others have been faked before, however,
they're big boys and don't go running home crying, they deal with it
in a professional manner.  I highly respect them for this.  While I
agree with him that the faked posts have gotten out of hand (even if
they HAVE been funny), his method of seeking redress by attempting to
silence the mailing list is misplaced if not down right vindictive.
  
I think a couple of things should happen due to this issue, the first
of which is for people to call Dooley and voice their concerns over
his action.  His number as it was posted in a listing of NACD
instructors is 904-454-2833.

The rest we can discuss later, on the resurrected cavers.
