Allen, this "up reel" nonsense is ridiculous. Obviouly what you are suggesting is the right way to do it. Pop a bag, and drift with the current with the boat (which should be live) following. If these guys had a bell down or something like Cousteau used to do , it would be one thing to fix to a wreck, but in the real world it is a dangerous practice spawned by the belief that neophyte divers, who have no businees doing this, are more easily handed with a dead boat hooked to a wreck. Operators like Deans, who are teaching diving, fix to the wreck with a complete rig which is detachable, but he does not do it that way if there is current. In fact he does not let the weenies dive if there is current. When we dive with him in current, he live boats it, either with or without (in my case) a ball. Carrying a huge spool of hemp line is strokery at its best, and planning on discarding it in the ocean is the worst form of blubbering , inconsiderate assininity.
