SEA '96: 31st ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

The Northern California Chapter of the Underwater Photographic Society
proudly announces the Sea '96 31st Annual International Photographic
Competition. Underwater photographers from throughout the world are
invited to enter.

Both _Amateur_ and _Open_ categories of entrants are welcome to participate
and will be judged separately. Submitted images may be photographic
prints, slides, or videos as described below, but must have been exposed
underwater by the submitting entrant. Aquarium or pool shots are not
permitted.

Winning entries will be announced and displayed as part of the *SEA '96
Underwater Film Festival* at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, California,
on May 18, 1996. Following an opening reception on May 31, the winners will
continue to be displayed through June 30 at the Faulkner Photographic
Gallery in San Francisco and then again on July 12, 1996 at the judges'
critique seminar for the Underwater Photographic Society in San Francisco.

Images may be submitted in any of the following eight divisions. A
non-refundable entry fee of $10 (U.S.) is required for each division
entered. A maximum of 4 print or slide entries, or 2 video entries, is
allowed per division. The deadline for submission of all entries is April
5, 1996. Entries may be returned at or following the July 12 program.

Division I: Macro/Close-up (1:6 or smaller) Color Prints.
II: Wide Angle (non close-up) Color Prints.
       III: Macro/Close-up Color Slides
        IV: Wide Angle Color Slides
         V: Black-and-white Prints
VI: Creative Images (Image significantly altered. [Typical subtle
printing processes such as cropping, dye spotting, dodging,
or burning in, do not necessarily constitute "altered".])
VII: Motion/Video (Eight minute maximum production.
Movie: 8 mm or 16 mm. Video: VHS, Beta, or 8 mm NTSC format.)
VIII: Underwater California (Image taken in California waters.
May be print or slide, color or black-and-white.)

The International Underwater Photographic Competition began in 1966, and
will continue its thirty-year annual tradition of showcasing both professional
and amateur talent from dozens of countries. Be sure to take part in the show!
