I have to go along with this observation. I have a friend I use to spearfish
with quite regularly. We would spend 2-6 hours in the water at a stretch
and cover many kilometers ( read about 8 km in a straight line many more when
bays, dives etc are considered ). I was always a lot faster than my friend,
even when I had to tow the fish home while he cruised. My fin of choice is
the US Diver Pro fin. These are black or blue rubber fins similar to Voit
Duck Feet. Now my Pros developed a crack and I started looking for a
replacement. One time I tried force fins and my friend was litterally
swimming circles around me. I could barely dive to 40 fsw less than half
my usual depth. There was no way I could swim 1 km let alone 8. My conclusion
was that for free diving, where thick wetsuits are required ( double 7mm
layer ),
these fins are not as effective as US Diver Pro fins. If someone knows
different I would be interested to hear because they don't make the USD Pros any
more.
