The following is a thread picked up from 'you know where' forum (incidentaly the question is not what i got annoyed about - the answer is). Q:- "I need to paint my cylinder the correct colour (in europe) for argon, could anybody help". Reasonable question:- Proper answer would be along the lines of:-It does not really matter, but it is Peacock Blue, the important thing is to mark it as 'Argon' and 'not breathable'. A:- "The colour is brown for the UK" (This is from an Trimix instructor of questionable background). Bad answer:- The reality is that in the UK brown cylinder denotes Helium - easy mistake for a Trimix instructor to make!. Regardless of what any local legislation dictates people need to stay sharp about identifying cylinders. The godamn colour does not matter a flying f..k!. You can buy them in any colour under the godamn sun - even custom painted with the mural of your choice if that's what you get of on. Simple easily identifiable markings are all that's needed. People get all jacked up about what a particular agency demands - fine. If it produces a rough across the board convention - all well and good. There is one thing that will keep you alive - knowing how deep a cylinder can be breathed IN BIG BOLD NUMBERS where you can see it, where other members of the dive team can see it. Yep - it got me annoyed. Chris Chris Hellas e-mail: chris@de*.de*.co*.uk*
