Subject: Re: Request for opinions from users
My knoledge about the Trans-Pac is limited, but I almost bought one. Instead
I bought a SeaPro Pro-Tek and I love it! One feature about the Trans-Pac
that I like is that you can get it with dual bladders. However, you can get
the SeaPro with dual bladders as well. The good points about the SeaPro are
that it is built pretty tough [it can handle OMS double 121's no problem], it
comes with a 60 or 40 pound lift bladder [which ever you want], it can come
with a solid brass BC inflator valve, and it has several stainless D-rings.
Oh, and it is weight integrated [you can put weight in the back plate, which
is plastic. I don't, actually I drilled holes in the back plate door, therby
not trapping air inside the back plate and allowing water in and out.
Otherwise, air becomes trapped inside the back plate and it is a pain in the
ass. I have seen people take them right off, the door that is. But then the
squeeze the back plate together when they mount their doubles and that just
doesn't seem too good. It was designed to have the door on it so I leave it
on to maintain the intended form of the back plate. The one, and only, thing
I don't like about the SeaPro is the location of one set of D-rings [close
together, low on the chest] seems to be in a poor location. So, I clip them
together. I bought this in August, and at the time heard a rumor that SeaPro
was in trouble. So I don't know if they went under or not. Did anyone see
them at DEMA???????

Another BC you might look at is Oceanic's new Chute II. It appears to be
built sturdy enough to handle double 121's [according to the sales rep "it
will"], it has two sets of D-rings up high on the shoulder [instead of one
like most others] and in a couple other locations, and it has a kevlar back
inflatable bladder. The only problem is that it only comes with a 40 pound
bladder. The Chute II is not weight integrated, but the smaller version, the
Chute I, is weight integrated. Basically, the Chute I is a replica of the
Chute II, except it is smaller and it is weight integrated. I hope this is
useful to you.
