What do you mean with solid core: single strand center conductor, incompressible coax ? For a homebrew project consider one of the low loss RF coax cables, especially the ones meant for direct burial or at least with a PVC jacket. The RG-8A/U and the RG-214 stuff should be suitable if you can find the hardware to form the seals. These cables can be found where radio amateurs assemble.
