Subject: notrogen elimination rate
Related to decompression if not directly to diving.
If an average man is in air on the surface and has the maximum nitrogen load
that he can carry without serious risk of bends, how fast is he eliminating
nitrogen? (weight of N2 per minute)
People are ureotelic, i.e. they eliminate waste protein nitrogen as urea. If
instead they were azototelic, i.e. if they were to eliminate all body waste
nitrogen as nitrogen gas, then if he ate 1 kilogram of protein per day, he
might have to get rid of c.200-300 grams of nitrogen gas per day. If so, would
he manage it, or would he get bends?
