     Harold,
     
     Although our section has used a number of DGPS hardware configurations 
     to produce positioning data for side scan sonar searches we have to 
     date used only the Hydro software package from Trimble to process this 
     data. The package is very flexible but expensive. We would be 
     interested in a package with similar capabilities but less costly. 
     
     In response to the other query regarding laptops on small boats: we 
     regularly use a "lunch box" 386 with a separate CRT on our 30' work 
     boat Red Bay. We protect against shock by setting the machine on a 
     thin rubber mat, inside,  cinching it down securely, and staying home 
     on rough days.
