Last year at Comdex I saw a laptop company named Badger who produces
laptops for hostile environments (ie, the military and field research)
They testtheir computers by dropping them 3' onto concrete and holding
them 2' underwater for 30 seconds - all while they are still running.
As you might expect, they're pretty expensive but if that's the 
environment you work in...
Sorry, I don't remember where they are based. If I find out I'll let
you know.
