Hi, I have come across some surplus 12V to 13.8V DC-DC converters rated for 1.7A. I.e., it will charge a 12V lead-acid at a max. current of 1.7A if fed off of a car battery albeit it does not have a constant-current fast charge mode and thus the last part of the charge, where a smart charger takes the battery to 14.5 Volts at a charge rate of C/10, is absent. So the downside is that the topping off of the battery is done only asymptotically (slow). On the positive side: overcharging is impossisble and there is no need to start the car to excute a full charge on a 12V gelled or glassfibered lead-acid. What I'm hoping for is to attain some bargaining power from numbers depending on the interest in this converter. john cc015012@br*.br*.ed*
